Croatia with your dog: glamping in Vrsar and Rovinj with Celine

A tent with a deck, the sea around the corner.

In May 2026 we started our trip with a week in Croatia. We stayed in a Safari Lodge Tent at Camping Valkanela in Vrsar and set out from there with Celine along the coast, including to Rovinj: narrow lanes down to the water, a harbour full of boats and sunny terraces. Then we drove on to Venice and Lake Garda.

From the tent we explored the coast with Celine. In Rovinj we walked through narrow lanes that end at the water, past a harbour full of boats and to terraces where she could sit on our lap. In busy spots she went in her sling.

03 / Before you go

What to arrange before Croatia with your dog.

  1. Choose a dog-friendly campsite or glamping. Ask whether dogs are allowed in the tent or lodge and whether there is a fee.
  2. Paperwork. For travel within the EU your dog needs a European pet passport and a valid rabies vaccination.
  3. Beaches. Not every beach is open to dogs. Ask locally which dog beaches there are.
  4. Heat. Bring water and a bowl and plan walks outside the hottest part of the day.
  5. Carrier bag. Handy in busy lanes and on steps in the old towns.
